The programme today
Climate work led by young people
The Foundation’s climate programme is built around a youth cohort rather than a campaign. Its participants come from environmental backgrounds and work across the coast, the islands and inland regions.
- Blue Green Heroes
- A youth programme of 25 participants focused on the blue economy, organic agriculture and environmental projects, as reported in 2024.
- Climate education for COP
- ARF selected and trained 30 young people for a Pre-COP29 briefing and climate education workshop in 2024.
- Tree planting
- Planting has taken place in Pwani, Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Zanzibar. ARF’s report does not give a number of trees, and none is invented here.
- Marine and island assessment
- ARF field assessments examined the effects of El Niño on Mbudya and Bongoyo islands, reporting erosion of coral reefs and damage to marine ecosystems. This is the Foundation’s own field observation, not peer-reviewed research.
- Shoreline and waste work
- The programme runs beach clean-ups and work on managing waste at source. No tonnages or volunteer counts are published, because the source does not record them.

What the Foundation saw changing, in 2016
The book records climate change not as a topic but as the reason a method had to be abandoned. The Foundation’s first hand-dug wells, at around sixty feet, dried up. After five years it moved to drilled deep wells with solar pumping.
The wider consequence documented alongside it is agricultural: reliable water is what made horticulture possible for a household, and then made produce possible to sell. Where the water failed, both food and income failed with it.
This describes the Foundation's work as it stood in 2016, taken from pages 31, 42–46 of its own publication. It is not a description of the programme today.
